Iberia launches direct Madrid–Monterrey service, expanding Mexico network

Share

Iberia has inaugurated a new nonstop route between Madrid and Monterrey, strengthening its presence in Mexico and further expanding connectivity between Latin America and Europe.

The new service operates three times per week—on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays—using an Airbus A330-200 configured with Business and Economy cabins and capacity for 288 passengers. The route will offer approximately 53,000 seats during 2026.

Monterrey becomes Iberia’s second destination in Mexico after Mexico City. Combined, the two routes will provide more than 820,000 seats this year, representing an 8% increase in the airline’s capacity to the Mexican market. Mexico is now Iberia’s largest Latin American market by seat capacity.

The new route is part of the airline’s Flight Plan 2030 strategy, which aims to reinforce Iberia’s position as a leading carrier between Europe and Latin America. Through its Madrid hub, passengers from Monterrey gain access to more than 100 destinations across Spain, Europe, Africa and Asia.

To mark the inaugural flight, Iberia organized a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport and offered passengers a special Mexican-themed onboard experience, including margaritas in Business Class, traditional Mexican sweets throughout the cabin and commemorative gifts.

The airline has also strengthened onward connectivity within Mexico through a partnership with Viva Aerobus, allowing passengers arriving in Monterrey to connect to 32 destinations across the country.

In addition, travellers can take advantage of Iberia’s Stopover Hola Madrid programme, which permits a stay in Madrid of up to nine nights at no additional airfare cost, alongside discounts on hotels, transport, dining and attractions.

The launch proceeds despite a challenging international environment and rising fuel costs, underscoring Iberia’s confidence in long-term demand between Spain and Mexico.
