Iberia expands Transatlantic network with new flights to Toronto and New York Newark

Share

Iberia continues to expand its long-haul network under its strategic Flight Plan 2030, announcing two new transatlantic services for 2026: a daily flight to Newark Liberty International Airport starting 29 March, and a five-times-weekly connection to Toronto Pearson International Airport from 13 June.

New York and Newark: Three Daily Options

The new daily service to Newark complements Iberia’s two existing daily flights to John F. Kennedy International Airport, offering passengers three daily options to New York. The flight schedule provides convenient access to Manhattan and strengthens connectivity for both leisure and corporate travellers.

During the 2026 summer season, Iberia will offer more than 350,000 seats between Madrid and New York—a 42% increase over 2025. The new flights are operated by the Airbus A321XLR, the most efficient aircraft in Iberia’s long-haul fleet.

María Jesús López Solás, Iberia’s Chief Commercial, Network Development and Alliances Officer, said: “The addition of Newark not only strengthens our presence in New York with a third daily frequency but also expands options for our customers by offering greater flexibility in schedules and fares, while optimising operations along one of the most strategic corridors across the Atlantic.”

Toronto: Expanding North American Connectivity

Starting 13 June 2026, Iberia will launch five weekly flights between Madrid and Toronto (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), offering a total of 37,000 seats during the summer season. The service underscores Iberia’s commitment to the Americas, joining recent route launches to Orlando, Recife, Fortaleza, and Monterrey.

“This route will bring Canada closer to Spain and Europe, while offering Canadian travellers more options to discover our country and the European continent with the best experience,” said López Solás. Toronto Pearson President & CEO Deborah Flint added: “This new connection will strengthen our global network and give travellers even more options to experience Spain’s vibrant culture.”

The A321XLR: Driving Efficient Transatlantic Growth

Both the Toronto and Newark routes will be operated with the Airbus A321XLR, a model for which Iberia was the launch airline. The aircraft delivers up to 40% fuel savings compared to wide-body aircraft and features the new Airspace cabin, LED lighting, and a two-class configuration with Business and Economy. Iberia marked the first anniversary of the A321XLR in November 2025, a year after completing its inaugural long-haul flight to Boston.

Flight Plan 2030: Investing in Long-Haul Connectivity

These new services are part of Iberia’s €6 billion Flight Plan 2030, which aims to expand the long-haul fleet from 48 to 70 aircraft, modernise the customer experience, digitalise services, and strengthen connectivity between Europe and the Americas. The plan also includes new routes to Orlando, Recife, Fortaleza, and Monterrey, reinforcing Iberia’s leadership in transatlantic travel and ACMI innovation.

With these expansions, Iberia now serves ten destinations in the United States and strengthens its presence in North America, providing more than 2 million seats and an average of 150 weekly flights in 2025, supported by its North Atlantic joint business agreement with American Airlines, British Airways, and Finnair.
