On 6 May, a British Airways Boeing 777-200 (G-VIIR) operating flight BA2167 from London London Gatwick to Tampa, U.S. encountered severe turbulence during the flight. The aircraft continued to Tampa where fourteen passengers required examination by medical staff.
Tracie Dixon, one of the passengers on the flight comments: “I was on this flight and were flying over Orlando, 20 minutes to landing, the longest 20 minutes of my life. There were more than 14 injured but I did see a man badly injured, he had been thrown in the air and hit the ceiling and landed in the aisle with blood on his face and was unable to move. There were babies and younger children injured as well as crew and other adults.
I went to hospital with neck a injury having been thrown around like a rag doll. I had my belt on but seat reclined still. I honestly thought we were all going to die but the Captain controlled the plane and the crew attended to the worst injured. I am terrified to fly again but I have to do it to conquer my fears.“
