Intoxicated British Airways pilot arrested by armed police minutes before flight to Mauritius

Flight BA2063 from London Gatwick to Port Louis, Mauritius, was about to start up the engines on Saturday evening when cabin crew called 999, smelling alcohol on one of the pilots.

Police boarded the aircraft and arrested a 49-year-old man from West Drayton, London. He will remain in police custody for “suspicion of performing an aviation function when the level of alcohol was over the prescribed limit

The Boeing 777 (G-YMMD) was delayed for two hours as the airline called in another pilot. British Airways is taking the incident very seriously and repeats that “The safety and security of our customers and crew is always our top priority.
