British Airways has been fined £3.2 million (€3.74 million) after two baggage handlers were seriously injured in separate falls at London Heathrow Airport. The incidents, described as “near-identical,” involved falls from televators—equipment used to load aircraft—due to a lack of proper safety features such as guardrails.
One worker suffered a bleed on the brain and facial fractures, while another sustained back and head injuries. Southwark Crown Court found the airline in breach of safety regulations, citing high culpability. The fine follows a prosecution by the UK’s Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
A spokesperson expressed “deep regret” over the incidents and said both employees have since returned to work in new roles.
