British Airways forced to cancel nearly all flights on Monday and Tuesday

Share

British Airways was forced to cancel nearly all flights on Monday and Tuesday after its pilots walked away from the cockpit. The industrial action, the first pilot strike in the history of the airline, will affect around 200,000 passengers.

The airline is in heavy dispute with the British Airlines Pilots Association (BALPA) over pay: they refuse the proposed pay rise deal of 11.5 per cent over three years.

BALPA said that 93% of the pilots voted in favour of taking industrial action, the union also said that a day of strike action will cost the airline around £40m. Three days will cost in the region of £120m. The gap between BA’s position and BALPA’s position is about £5m. Our proposal remains on the table should BA wish to reach agreement prior to strike action.
