British Airways investigates food poisoning incident involving flight crew

Share

British Airways has launched an investigation after three pilots operating flight BA276 from Hyderabad, India, to London Heathrow, England, reportedly suffered food poisoning following an overnight stopover.

According to reports, the pilots had breakfast together at their crew hotel before departing. During the 10½-hour flight, one pilot became seriously unwell, was described as incapacitated, and required oxygen. The other two pilots were able to continue performing their duties, although their symptoms reportedly worsened after the Boeing 777-200 aircraft landed in London.

British Airways said the flight continued safely in accordance with established procedures and landed normally, stressing that passenger safety was never compromised.

The airline has launched an investigation into the incident and is reviewing its crew accommodation arrangements in Hyderabad following reports of illness. The affected pilots submitted air safety reports and provided medical samples to help determine the source of the suspected food poisoning.

In a statement, British Airways said the welfare of its crew remains a priority and confirmed it is assessing the hotel used by flight crews in the Indian city after what it described as isolated cases of sickness.
