British Airways flight BA295 from London Heathrow to Chicago returned to its departure airport on Monday, 5 October, following a technical issue, the airline confirmed.
FlightAware tracking data showed the Boeing 777-200 aircraft registered G-VIIA descending from approximately 36,000ft to 9,000ft over ten minutes, around half an hour after departure. The descent appeared controlled. The aircraft turned back over Ireland and circled for several hours before landing safely at Heathrow that evening.
British Airways said passengers disembarked normally and its teams were arranging onward travel. The airline did not specify the nature of the technical issue.
