A British Airways Airbus A350-1000 lost a main landing-gear wheel shortly after departing Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas on January 26, 2026. The aircraft, registered G-XWBN, was operating flight BA274 to London Heathrow (LHR) when the incident occurred just minutes after takeoff.
Video footage circulating on social media shows the moment the wheel detached as the main landing gear was being retracted. Despite the incident, the flight continued across the Atlantic and landed safely in London. No injuries were reported.
According to Flightradar24 data, the aircraft has not operated any further commercial flights since the event, suggesting it has been grounded for inspection and maintenance.
The Airbus A350-1000 is equipped with a total of 14 wheels, including two on the nose landing gear and twelve on the main landing gear, arranged in two six-wheel bogies. This configuration differs from the smaller A350-900, which uses four-wheel main bogies.
In a statement, British Airways confirmed it is cooperating with authorities to support the ongoing investigation into the cause of the incident.
