IndiGo, India’s largest airline, will launch direct flights to London, Athens, Copenhagen, Siem Reap, and four Central Asian cities during the current financial year, continuing its aggressive international expansion. The carrier will also begin flights from Mumbai to Manchester and Amsterdam in July, marking its long-haul debut using six leased Boeing 787-9 aircraft from Norse Atlantic Airways.
CEO Pieter Elbers cited strong growth potential in Indian aviation, with passenger numbers expected to double by 2030, supported by infrastructure development. He also highlighted India’s potential to become a global air hub.
IndiGo currently operates 2,300+ daily flights, serves 90+ domestic and 40+ international destinations, and plans to grow its fleet to over 600 aircraft by FY30. While the airline has various partnerships, it has no current plans to join a global alliance. IndiGo also boasts the highest percentage of female pilots among Indian carriers at 15%.
Additionally, IndiGo will host the 81st IATA AGM in Delhi this June, the first time the global aviation event returns to India in 42 years.
