Icelandair saw a strong performance in April 2025, transporting 381,000 passengers, a 24% year-on-year increase, driven by a 25% growth in capacity. Year-to-date passenger numbers surpassed 1.2 million.
29% of the passengers travelled to Iceland, 19% from Iceland, 47% were connecting passengers, and 5% flew domestically. Load factor remained stable at 81%, while on-time performance improved to 91%.
Charter flight activity surged, with sold block hours up 82%, and freight volumes increased 12%. CO2 emissions per tonne-kilometre dropped by 3%.
CEO Bogi Nils Bogason attributed the growth to strategic capacity expansion — including an earlier start of the second connection bank at Keflavik — and strong holiday demand. He highlighted a 37% increase in Icelandic outbound travel and 30% growth in inbound traffic, all achieved with flat yields, maintaining strong revenue performance.
