Icelandair carried 466,000 passengers in September 2026, down 3% year-on-year, while its load factor reached a September record of 84.9%. Capacity fell by 8%, helping lift the load factor by 3.2 percentage points, while yield increased by 14% to 10.30 US cents.
Passenger numbers to Iceland rose by 7% and those departing Iceland increased by 11%. Connecting traffic declined by 15%, reflecting the airline’s focus on travel to and from its home market, with particularly strong demand for Southern Europe and Greenland.
Domestic passenger numbers fell by 7%, partly because of maintenance on a regional aircraft. On-time performance reached 85.4%. Icelandair also launched its first service to Gda?sk during the month, while industrial action on 23 September caused cancellations.
Freight traffic increased by 14% and sold block hours in leasing operations rose by 6%. CO? emissions per operational tonne-kilometre fell by 5%, which the airline attributed to higher load factors, greater use of newer aircraft and operational efficiencies.
