Icelandair and WestJet launch codeshare deal linking Canada, Iceland and Europe

Share

Icelandair and WestJet have signed a bilateral codeshare agreement designed to improve connectivity between Canada, Iceland, and Europe through joint network integration.

The partnership will allow passengers to book single-ticket itineraries across both airlines, with coordinated schedules, baggage transfer, and streamlined connections via Icelandair’s hub at Keflavík International Airport.

Expanded access between Canada and Europe

Under the agreement:

  • WestJet passengers gain improved access to Iceland and onward connections into Icelandair’s European network.
  • Icelandair customers gain new one-stop access to destinations across Canada.

The airlines signed the agreement during the 82nd annual meeting of the International Air Transport Association in Rio de Janeiro.

Leadership comments

Icelandair CEO Bogi Nils Bogason said the partnership strengthens the airline’s global reach and simplifies travel between Canada, Iceland, and mainland Europe.

WestJet executive John Weatherill emphasised that the agreement expands travel options for Canadian passengers and enhances the airline’s transatlantic connectivity through Reykjavík.

Commercial rollout

The codeshare flights are expected to become available for booking in fall 2026, pending regulatory approval.

The agreement builds on Icelandair’s long-standing “hub-and-spoke” model via Iceland, reinforcing the country’s role as a transatlantic connection point between North America and Europe.
