The six people who were aboard a rescue helicopter that crashed on Tuesday morning in the Abruzzo mountains are dead, said the prefecture police of L’Aquila. The aircraft came down near the Campo Felice ski station after picking up an injured skier.
“Six people were killed. The rescue teams who arrived at the carcass of the aircraft recovered the bodies of the deceased at various places in the snow,” a police spokesman told AFP.
The helicopter issued a crash signal and people nearby reported hearing a loud explosion, police said.
Campo Felice is a small skiing resort popular with day-trippers from Rome, which is 120 km to the west.
