Gulf Air, the national carrier of Bahrain, has signed an agreement with Boeing for the purchase of 12 787 Dreamliners, with options for six additional aircraft. The deal, once finalised, will increase the airline’s firm order book to 14 of the fuel-efficient widebody jets.

The announcement was made in Washington, D.C., in the presence of Bahrain’s Minister of Finance and National Economy, Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, and U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. Also attending were Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Stephanie Pope and Gulf Air Group Chairman Khalid Taqi.

“This agreement marks a transformative step in Gulf Air’s strategic growth journey,” said Taqi. “The Boeing 787 Dreamliner has proven to be an exceptional aircraft for our long-haul operations, and this new order reflects our confidence in its performance and sustainability benefits.”

The new Dreamliners will support Gulf Air’s plan to grow its international network and maintain an all-787 widebody fleet.
