Gulf Air expands Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet with firm order for 15 jets

Gulf Air has deepened its long-term fleet renewal strategy, finalising a firm order for 15 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, with options for three more, as the airline accelerates plans to grow its long-haul network. The agreement, signed at the Dubai Airshow, adds three additional Dreamliners to the airline’s July 2025 commitment, bringing its total order book for the type to 17 aircraft.

Khalid Husain Taqi, chairman of Gulf Air Group, called the order a “significant advancement” for the Bahrain flag carrier. “By confirming our acquisition of the Boeing 787 Dreamliners, we are accelerating our strategy to increase capacity, strengthen long-haul operations, and deliver an elevated, more sustainable travel experience,” he said.

Gulf Air already operates 10 Dreamliners, which serve as the backbone of its long-haul network linking more than 50 destinations across Asia, Europe and the United States. The expanded fleet is expected to open new routes and support increased frequencies on existing ones as the carrier pushes ahead with international growth.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Stephanie Pope said Gulf Air’s renewed commitment underscores the 787’s role as a cornerstone aircraft. “The 787’s superior efficiency and passenger comfort fit perfectly with Gulf Air’s focus on sustainability and operational excellence,” she noted.

The Dreamliner family is known for its fuel savings, reduced emissions and passenger-focused cabin environment, including large dimmable windows, lower cabin altitude and advanced turbulence-damping technology.

The new order further strengthens a decades-long partnership between Gulf Air and Boeing as both companies look toward the next phase of widebody fleet modernisation.
