GOL Linhas Aéreas has announced its first direct flights to Europe, launching new services from RIOgaleão – Tom Jobim International Airport in Rio de Janeiro to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport and Lisbon Airport.
The route to Lisbon will begin on 16 September with four weekly round-trip flights, while details for the service to Paris will be announced later. Both routes will be operated using the widebody Airbus A330, marking the Brazilian airline’s entry into long-haul transatlantic operations since its founding in 2001.
The flights will feature the airline’s Business INSIGNIA cabin, offering fully flat beds, premium amenities and lounge access at selected airports. Onboard catering will include menus created by Brazilian two-Michelin-starred chef Felipe Bronze.
The new intercontinental services will also expand cargo operations for GOLLOG, the airline’s logistics unit. Each A330 will provide around 20 tonnes of cargo capacity, helping establish Rio de Janeiro as a new hub for the company’s international freight activities.
Through its hub in Rio, GOL currently offers connections to more than 30 destinations across Brazil and Latin America, which the airline says will support tourism and business travel between South America and Europe.
