On May 15, 2025, British startup Global Airlines marked a significant milestone with its inaugural transatlantic flight from Glasgow Airport to New York’s JFK International Airport. The flight was operated using an Airbus A380, registered 9H-GLOBL, the world’s largest passenger aircraft, signaling the airline’s ambitious entry into the competitive transatlantic market.
Founded by James Asquith, Global Airlines aims to revive the “Golden Age of Travel” by offering luxurious onboard experiences. The inaugural flight featured amenities such as champagne, caviar, and high-end services. Despite the aircraft’s capacity to carry over 500 passengers, the maiden voyage accommodated approximately 170 travelers, reflecting the airline’s focus on comfort and exclusivity.
The A380 used for this flight, registered as 9H-GLOBL, was previously operated by China Southern Airlines and underwent significant refurbishment before entering service with Global Airlines. The airline currently operates under a damp lease agreement with Hi Fly Malta and plans to expand its network with additional charter flights, including a Manchester to New York route later this month.
