A ground-handling employee at Montréal–Trudeau International Airport died after being struck by a French bee aircraft on Monday evening.
Police said the Airbus A350-900 (tail number F-HREY) was moving backwards when it hit the worker shortly before its scheduled departure for Paris Orly. Airport emergency procedures were activated at approximately 19:30, and the employee was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries.
The Paris-bound flight BF5761 had been scheduled to depart at 18:00 on Monday after reportedly being postponed from the previous day.
The airport authority described the incident as a tragic workplace accident and introduced assistance measures for employees and passengers who witnessed it.
Employment and Social Development Canada has opened an investigation, while the airport is cooperating with the relevant authorities. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada said it was aware of the incident.
