flydubai signs MoU for 75 Boeing 737 MAX airplanes

Boeing and flydubai announced that the airline has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for its fourth 737 MAX order. The agreement covers 75 aircraft with options for an additional 75, supporting flydubai’s plans to modernise its fleet and expand its rapidly growing network.

HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of flydubai, and Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, formalised the MoU during the signing ceremony.

The Dubai-based carrier highlighted that the 737 MAX family—known for its fuel efficiency, range and reliability—has been essential to expanding its network to more than 135 destinations, including recent additions such as Iasi, Nairobi, and Riga.

The new commitment allows flydubai to further benefit from the flexibility and commonality of the 737 MAX lineup, including the 737-8, 737-9 and 737-10 variants, aligning with the airline’s evolving capacity and route requirements.

“We are pleased to announce a new aircraft order agreement with Boeing. Looking ahead, proactive fleet planning is essential to meeting rising travel demand—demand we are confident will continue to grow,” said His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum. “This agreement supports our long-term vision, ensures we can expand while replacing older aircraft, and positions us strongly for the years ahead, including our role in Dubai World Central’s expansion.”

flydubai currently operates 96 Boeing 737s. Upon finalisation, the new MoU will add to its existing backlog of 737 MAX orders.

“flydubai was among the first airlines worldwide to operate the 737 MAX, and this latest planned order—its fourth—demonstrates the aircraft’s leading value and versatility,” said Stephanie Pope. “We are proud that Boeing jets will continue to form the backbone of flydubai’s fleet strategy.”

The 737 MAX family offers significant improvements in fuel efficiency, environmental performance and passenger comfort compared to previous generations, and is optimised for growth across the Middle East with greater range and seating options.

In 2023, flydubai also placed its first-ever widebody order with the purchase of 30 Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

According to Boeing’s 2025 Commercial Market Outlook, the Middle East’s single-aisle fleet is expected to more than double over the next 20 years to support increasing connectivity across the region and into Europe.

Boeing, a leading global aerospace company and major U.S. exporter, designs, manufactures and services commercial aircraft, defence systems and space technology for customers in more than 150 countries, guided by its core values of safety, quality and integrity.
