flydubai has signed a major Memorandum of Understanding with Airbus for 150 A321neo aircraft, marking the airline’s first-ever order with the European manufacturer and one of the largest single-aisle commitments in Middle Eastern aviation. The deal, announced at the Dubai Airshow 2025, positions the fast-growing carrier to significantly expand and diversify its fleet as Dubai advances its long-term economic and aviation ambitions.
The agreement was signed by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of flydubai, alongside Christian Scherer, CEO Commercial Aircraft at Airbus. flydubai CEO Ghaith Al Ghaith also attended the ceremony.
Sheikh Ahmed said the order represents “another important milestone in flydubai’s journey,” aligning with Dubai’s D33 Economic Agenda and supporting the expansion of Dubai World Central, which the emirate aims to develop into the world’s largest airport. “This strategic addition diversifies our narrow-body fleet and strengthens our long-term expansion plans,” he added.
The A321neo order provides flydubai with a new aircraft type that will help unlock additional destinations and meet rising regional and international demand. The carrier currently operates an all-Boeing 737 fleet; the Airbus jets will form a complementary pillar as the airline accelerates growth.
Airbus chief Christian Scherer welcomed the carrier “as a new Airbus customer,” calling the decision “an endorsement of the added value Airbus brings in terms of range, efficiency and passenger comfort.”
The A321neo family offers more than 20% fuel and CO? savings compared to previous-generation single-aisle aircraft, and is already certified to operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel, with Airbus targeting 100% SAF capability by 2030.
As of October 2025, nearly 100 customers worldwide have ordered more than 7,200 A321neo aircraft, underscoring its standing as the world’s most in-demand single-aisle jet.
