Ten killed in Bahamas plane crash as Flamingo Air flight goes down

Share

A Flamingo Air Cessna 402C Utiliner III registered C6-FLX crashed while approaching San Andros Airport (SAQ) in the Bahamas, killing all 10 people on board, including nine passengers and the pilot.

The aircraft had departed Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) near Nassau on a short domestic flight when it reportedly encountered difficulties and crashed into bushes before landing. Initial reports suggested there was one survivor, but Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Davis later confirmed that the individual had died from their injuries.

The accident occurred on the Bahamas’ 53rd Independence Day, prompting the Prime Minister to describe what should have been a day of celebration as one of national mourning.

Following the crash, the Ministry of Aviation temporarily suspended Flamingo Air’s Air Operator Certificate as a precaution while the investigation proceeds, stressing that the measure should not be viewed as a finding of wrongdoing. Authorities also noted that another safety incident involving a Flamingo Air aircraft had occurred earlier the same day, when a flight returned to Nassau after a technical issue and experienced a fire after passengers had safely disembarked.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority is investigating the cause of the fatal crash, while Flamingo Air said it is fully cooperating with the inquiry.
