Finnair has announced a major renewal of its narrowbody fleet, placing firm orders for 18 Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, alongside plans to acquire up to twelve used Airbus A320 and Airbus A321 aircraft from the secondary market.
The agreement with Embraer also includes options for 16 additional aircraft and 12 purchase rights. Deliveries of the 134-seat E195-E2 jets are scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2027, with three aircraft arriving that year, followed by six in 2028 and six in 2029. The aircraft will be operated by regional partner Norra, supporting Finnair’s short-haul and feeder network.
In parallel, Finnair has signed agreements with RTX subsidiary Pratt & Whitney for spare engines and maintenance services related to the PW1900G engines powering the E2 fleet.
The airline said the combination of new and used aircraft will help balance growth, efficiency, and profitability, while also supporting its environmental goals through improved fuel efficiency and lower CO? emissions. The new E195-E2 is expected to deliver significant efficiency gains compared to older-generation aircraft, while replacing ageing A319 and A320 aircraft over the coming years.
