Finnair traffic performance in April 2019: +14.8%

The number of passengers carried in April increased by 14.8% year-on-year while capacity growth remains strong

In April. Finnair carried 1.227.400 passengers. 14.8% more than in the corresponding period of 2018. The overall capacity measured in Available Seat Kilometres (ASK) increased in April by 19.6%. Finnair’s traffic measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres (RPKs) increased by 17.8%. The Passenger Load Factor (PLF) decreased year-on-year by 1.2% points to 81.4%.

Finnair’s long-haul capacity increased year-on-year with two new A350 aircraft that entered the service in December 2018 and in February 2019. The ASK growth in Asian traffic was 11.5%. mainly due to the new route opening to Nanjing and extended frequencies to Hong Kong. Tokyo and Osaka. The North American capacity increased by 140.7% following the opening of the new Los Angeles route and earlier openings of Chicago and San Francisco routes this year. Also. Miami flights were extended to April this year. when they last year ended in March.

In European traffic, the ASK growth was 17.9%. The growth derived from one new narrow-body aircraft year-on-year. additional seating capacity in some of the existing narrow-body aircraft. on average longer routes and better aircraft utilization. The added capacity was directed to several locations but mainly to the new route openings to Bergen. Stuttgart. Lisbon after the comparison period. Capacity in domestic traffic increased by 0.4%.

RPKs increased in Asian traffic by 6.4%. in North American traffic by 142.1%. in European traffic by 20.7% and in domestic traffic by 0.7%. The PLF was 82.8% in Asian traffic. 81.9% in North American traffic. 81.1% in European traffic and 67.1% in domestic traffic.

Passenger numbers increased in Asian traffic by 6.2%. in North American traffic by 116.7%. in European traffic by 18.8%. and in domestic traffic by 0.5%.

Available scheduled cargo tonne kilometres increased by?27.0% year-on-year. Revenue scheduled cargo tonne kilometres increased by?15.3% mostly driven by the positive?cargo market development?in?Norway. Hong Kong and Southeast Asia.

In April 82.5% of all Finnair flights arrived on schedule (82.9%).
