Finnair carried just over 1.01 million passengers in March 2026, a 10.8% increase year-on-year, driven by strong growth in Asian and European markets following earlier capacity constraints.
Passenger traffic (RPK) rose significantly by 15.7%, while capacity increased modestly by 2.3%, resulting in a sharp improvement in load factor to 82.4% (+9.5 percentage points). Unit revenue (RASK) also surged by 21.4%, reflecting stronger demand and improved aircraft utilisation.
Growth was particularly strong on Asian routes, supported by added frequencies to destinations such as Osaka, Tokyo, and Hong Kong. European and domestic traffic also improved. However, Middle East traffic dropped sharply after flights to Doha and Dubai were suspended due to regional security concerns, while North Atlantic capacity declined due to reduced services to the U.S.
Operational performance improved, with 89.5% of flights arriving on time. Cargo volumes, however, declined slightly due to reduced activity in the Middle East.
Rising fuel prices—linked to geopolitical tensions—remain a concern, though Finnair has mitigated the impact with a fuel hedging ratio of 82% for the second quarter.
Overall, the airline reported strong demand recovery and improved profitability metrics despite regional disruptions.
