Finnair has reinstated Swedish-language greetings on all flights, reversing a decision taken earlier this year that had drawn widespread criticism. The airline confirmed that pre-recorded onboard announcements are once again played in Swedish, Finland’s second language, alongside other languages.
The greetings were removed in spring as part of an effort to shorten onboard announcements, a move that was poorly received, particularly given Swedish’s status as one of Finland’s official languages. Despite initially stating in May that Swedish would not be reinstated immediately, Finnair said passenger feedback would be considered during the next update cycle.
According to Finnair’s head of communications, Päivyt Tallqvist, the updated greetings have now been implemented, with the reintroduction already phased in during the summer. The change underscores the airline’s responsiveness to customer and public feedback on language and cultural representation in its onboard service.
