Finnair has announced the cancellation of approximately 50 flights on Monday, 2 June, as a result of industrial action by the Finnish Aviation Union (IAU) at Helsinki Airport. The disruption is expected to affect around 3,600 customers and will impact several key services, including ground handling and catering.
The IAU’s four-hour industrial actions, which resemble similar strikes carried out on Friday, 30 May, target various work shifts throughout the day. Although short in duration, the staggered nature of the action severely affects operational continuity at Finnair’s home hub.
To mitigate the impact on travellers, Finnair is offering alternative flights to affected passengers. Customers whose flights are cancelled will be contacted directly and provided with a new routing. These changes will also be visible in the airline’s “Manage booking” tool and mobile app. Passengers can accept the proposed new flight, rebook within availability, or choose to cancel their reservation and apply for a refund for any unused ticket.
Finnair urges all passengers to verify that their contact details are correctly updated in their booking to ensure timely communication.
The airline is also advising customers travelling on 2 June to check in in advance, arrive at the airport early, and pack essential items such as medication in their carry-on baggage, as baggage handling services may experience delays due to the strike.
Looking ahead, the IAU has announced a similar industrial action planned for Wednesday, 4 June. Finnair is currently evaluating the potential impact of that action and expects to announce possible cancellations for 4 June by Monday.
