FedEx has become the first major U.S. company to file a lawsuit seeking reimbursement of import tariffs that were recently ruled illegal.
The logistics and air cargo giant submitted a complaint in a New York court against the U.S. government, demanding repayment of the duties introduced last year under former President Donald Trump. FedEx is also seeking interest on the amounts paid.
Last week, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that the tariffs were unlawful. However, companies must initiate individual legal proceedings to recover the funds.
A broader wave of lawsuits from other U.S. corporations is now widely expected.
