FedEx Express is celebrating 40 years since launching its first scheduled transatlantic service, which included Brussels as a key hub alongside New York and London. The milestone flight on June 15, 1985, established Brussels as a critical link in the early days of express shipping between the U.S. and Europe.
This service helped lay the foundation for today’s global trade infrastructure, with Brussels playing a vital role in FedEx’s European operations. Now part of a vast network, the company serves 69 airports and 28 road hubs across Europe, including daily connections from Brussels to the U.S. and other key destinations.
FedEx highlights that 90% of Europe now has next-day access to major U.S. economic hubs—benefiting businesses in Brussels and beyond. The company continues to support European e-commerce and logistics with both express and less urgent freight options, emphasising reliability, speed, and adaptability.
Wouter Roels, FedEx Europe’s Regional President, underscored Brussels’ historical and ongoing importance in transatlantic trade, positioning it as a gateway for innovation and economic integration.
