Etihad Airways will deploy its flagship Airbus A380 on daily flights between Abu Dhabi (AUH) and Tokyo Narita (NRT) from 16 June 2026, adding Japan to its growing list of A380 destinations alongside London, Paris, Toronto and Singapore.
The announcement coincides with the return of Etihad’s eighth A380 to service, enabling a major capacity boost on the Japan route. Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer Arik De said demand for Japan remains strong, particularly for business travel between the UAE and Japan, and that the A380 is “remarkably well-suited” to the market.
The upgrade brings Etihad’s full suite of A380 premium products to Japan, including:
The Residence – the world’s only three-room suite in the sky, with a private living room, bedroom and shower, dedicated crew and à la carte fine dining.
First Apartments – nine private suites with a lounge chair, separate 80” bed and exclusive shower room access.
Business Studios – 70 private studios plus access to The Lobby, a serviced lounge and bar on the upper deck.
Economy Smart Seats – 337 seats plus 68 extra-legroom seats, each featuring Etihad’s fixed-wing headrest and enhanced comfort amenities.
Etihad says the move will stimulate inbound travel to Abu Dhabi while giving Japan-bound travellers a flagship product on one of Asia’s most in-demand routes.
