On 8 October, an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 767-300 (ET-AMG) operated flight ET908 between Dakar, Senegal and Bamako, Mali. During take-off, the aircraft suffered an uncontained engine failure and fire. The aircraft safely returned to Dakar airport ten minutes after its initial take-off.
The 90 passengers on board safely left the aircraft. While local press is writing about the fact that a fatal crash was narrowly avoided, an engine failure is a standard emergency procedure were pilots are trained for.
The aircraft previously operated in Belgium for holiday airline Sobelair as OO-SLS.
