Emirates has introduced the first Airbus A380 fitted with next-generation Starlink connectivity, marking a major upgrade in in-flight internet performance.
The aircraft has returned to Dubai following installation and certification in the UK, becoming the world’s first A380 to offer Starlink Wi-Fi. The system delivers a dramatic leap in onboard connectivity, enabling passengers to stream, browse, game and work seamlessly throughout the flight.
Massive leap in performance
Emirates said the new system increases onboard bandwidth by up to 1,000 times compared with earlier generations, reaching speeds of more than 2 Gbps across the aircraft. The upgrade includes three antennas per aircraft and enhanced cabin infrastructure to support the A380’s high passenger capacity and double-deck layout.
The service will be free for all passengers across all cabins, with future plans to introduce live TV streaming.
Fleet-wide rollout underway
The airline plans to accelerate installations across its A380 fleet during 2026, with work to be carried out at its Dubai engineering facilities. Starlink is already installed on 25 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, and more than 650,000 passengers have experienced the service so far.
Part of broader product investment
The connectivity upgrade forms part of Emirates’ wider push to enhance the passenger experience, including a large-scale cabin retrofit programme and expanded crew training initiatives.
With high-speed, low-latency internet becoming a key differentiator in long-haul travel, the move positions Emirates at the forefront of next-generation connected in-flight services.
