Following several years of sustained demand served by ad hoc operations, the airline will now operate five weekly Boeing 777 freighter flights, increasing capacity by around 500 tonnes per week. Liège’s strategic location within Europe’s Amsterdam–Paris–Frankfurt logistics triangle and its strong road connectivity were key factors in the decision.
Three of the weekly freighters will link Liège, Chicago O’Hare and Dubai World Central, primarily carrying temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals via a dedicated cool chain. The remaining two flights will originate in Hong Kong, transporting e-commerce shipments to and through Liège.
In 2025, Emirates SkyCargo moved more than 15,000 tonnes of cargo from Belgium, using a mix of freighter services and bellyhold capacity on its double-daily passenger flights to Brussels. The addition of Liège as a permanent freighter destination is expected to drive further growth.
Liège Airport, one of the world’s fastest-growing cargo hubs with 14% cargo growth in 2025, strengthens its position as a leading European freighter hub, particularly for pharma, perishables, live animals and express cargo.
Europe remains a core market for Emirates SkyCargo, currently served by 38 freighters and over 500 weekly passenger flights, with further network growth planned as new aircraft join the fleet by the end of 2026.
