To mark World Chocolate Day, Emirates has revealed the impressive scale and craftsmanship behind its onboard chocolate offering, with passengers consuming more than 64 million pieces of premium chocolate and 26 million handcrafted chocolate desserts each year across the airline’s global network.
The Dubai-based carrier loads around 750 tonnes of luxury chocolates onto its aircraft annually and uses a further 260 tonnes of chocolate ingredients to create more than 120 different desserts, prepared by a team of 250 pastry and bakery chefs. Emirates says chocolate consumption has grown by around 5% year-on-year, with increasing demand for richer dark chocolate varieties.
Rather than relying on a single supplier, Emirates partners with renowned chocolatiers from around the world, sourcing cocoa from regions in South America and Africa. Dessert menus are also tailored to specific destinations, incorporating regional flavours such as pistachio for Middle Eastern routes, yuzu and matcha for Asia, and seasonal fruits for Mediterranean destinations.
The chocolate experience extends beyond the aircraft into Emirates’ premium lounges, where First and Business Class passengers can enjoy an extensive range of chocolate desserts before departure.
Each cabin class features its own signature chocolate offering, from Triple Chocolate Mousse Cake in Economy and Chocolate & Pistachio Mousse Cake in Premium Economy to sophisticated plated desserts in Business and First Class. Premium chocolate selections are also rotated regularly, with current onboard partners including Valrhona (France), Canonica (Switzerland) and Neuhaus (Belgium), ensuring frequent travellers can discover new flavours throughout the year.
