Emirates considers deploying Airbus A380 flagship to Brussels Airport during 45-days runway upgrade at Dubai Airport

From 16 April to 30 May 2019, Dubai Airport will close one runway for upgrade works designed to boost safety, service, and capacity levels of that particular runway. Back in July, the airport authorities said only one runway remains in operation, resulting in a significant capacity reduction. As a result, flights between Dubai Airport and Brussels Airport will be reduced from two to one daily.

Dubai airport authorities have selected this period as passenger traffic tends to slow down due to a seasonal lull. Several sources have now informed Aviation24.be that Emirates might deploy its Airbus A380 flagship to Brussels Airport during the 45 days of single-runway operations at Dubai Airport. Some websites even considered the information as certain. Contacted by Aviation24.be, Emirates refused to confirm the possible upgrade.

Brussels Airport is ready for the Airbus A380

In 2018, Brussels Airport already prepared for the arrival of the double-deck aircraft. From taxiways to boarding bridges: the airport invested €52 million to equip its Pier B with a new triple boarding bridge to meet future demands from the airlines to operate with A380s. In April, Brussels Airport inaugurated the triple boarding bridge with a one-off Emirates A380 flight.
