Leading Designer Shai Shalom Chosen for the mission

As part of the renewal process announced by EL AL in anticipation of the arrival of the new Dreamliner aircraft, the ground and air crew uniforms are being redesigned. For this purpose, fashion eesigner Shai Shalom was chosen to lead the process and design the new attire. EL AL will announce the date of presentation of the new uniforms.

EL AL CEO and President, David Maimon, said:

“EL AL has been the national carrier of Israel for seven decades. Our people who interface directly with the passengers in the air and on the ground are the face of the airline in Israel and worldwide. The uniforms of the EL AL crews represent the values of the airline and especially the aspiration to give every customer the feeling of being at home. Every Israeli passenger recognizes EL AL crews wherever they are in the world, especially at airports around the world. Therefore, we decided to give this important task of designing the new uniforms to a designer who knows how to integrate the needs of those wearing the uniform to perform their jobs in maximum comfort with the EL AL brand values. This is why we chose Shai Shalom, a leading Israeli haute couture designer. We are certain he will appreciate the great symbolism of the uniforms and design new and stylish fashion designs”.

Shai Shalom added: “Choosing me to be a partner in creating newly designed uniforms for the air and ground crew of the most Israeli airline is a major challenge for me. As a company for whom the past serves as a basis for renewal in the present, with a broad vision toward the future, the air and ground uniforms must embody this design concept, and I am proud to be part of this creative process”. ?

Shai Shalom

Shai Shalom is among the top designers in Israel’s fashion industry. He earned his special place in the industry mainly through his Custom Made Collection approach that tailors the garment to the individual. This sets him apart in his field. His personal design imprint has been identifiable over the years, and his distinct approach in the area of one-of-a-kind fashion is what brings many followers in his circle.

Shalom set out on the independent path from the moment he left the Shenkar School of Design almost 20 years ago. Today his portfolio contains loyal customers who believe in his concept of personal tailoring. His work technique and the quality of his collections proudly meet the international standards of superior couture. Every item is designed and created for the end customer.

Every season Shalom creates two distinct collections for women and for men, which create a high aesthetic design dialog. The items constitute a declaration of fashion intentions for the upcoming season and inspire the creation of a personal collection for every customer.

From Shai’s point of view, the past and the present dictate the future and this opinion is evident in his new designs each season.

Shalom has displayed his creations for men and women during Fashion Weeks since this tradition was renewed at the end of winter 2011. In summer 2015, Shalom was the first Israeli designer to present his designs at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Berlin 2016 – a collection for men and women that expressed his uniqueness in the field.

In the summer of 2016 he presented his Resort Collection for men and women for summer 2017 as part of the Beauty City fashion show. And for the Gindi Fashion Week in Tel Aviv 2017 he presented his collection for women and men.

Inspiration is an elusive concept to Shalom. As sharp as it may be, it will always be dependent upon other things, so that you cannot ignore the sum of cultural components that envelop it, including environment, memories, experiences, associations, raw materials, colors and aromas.
