El Al Israeli airlines announced that it will trial non-stop flights to Melbourne in 2020. The flights, which will commence in the second quarter of 2020 pending regulatory approval, will be operated on their airline’s new fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. El Al has already received 12 of the 16 Dreamliners that it has ordered to replace its Boeing 747 fleet.

The non-stop flight between Tel Aviv and Melbourne will take approximately 16 hours and 45 minutes, and the return flight to Tel Aviv should last 17 hours and 45 minutes, but the shortest way is over Saudi Arabia. It is not yet sure whether the airline will get the overfly authorisation.

Passengers who currently wish to travel between Israel and Australia must change flights somewhere on their way to their final destination.

Besides Melbourne, El Al plans to launch flights to Chicago, Tokyo, Dublin and Dusseldorf in Summer 2020.
