EGYPTAIR is reporting that flight #MS804 from Paris to Cairo has “disappeared from radar” while over the Mediterranean  Sea, shortly after leaving the Greek airspace. The last reported ADS-B position we received is 33.67, 28.79

Flight MS804 left Paris’ Charles de Gaulle airport at 23:09 local time on Wednesday (21:09 GMT) and was scheduled to arrive in the Egyptian capital soon after 03:00 local time on Thursday.

It was flying at 37,000ft (11,300m) over the eastern Mediterranean when contact was lost, at 02:45 Cairo time (00:45 GMT).

The Greek authorities joined Egyptian armed forces in the search operation. According to Greek authorities (confirmed by Egypt), the plane would have crashed near the Greek island of Karpathos. No emergency signal was recorded.

There were 7 crew, 3 Egyptian security officers and 56 passengers on board (30 Egyptians, 15 French, 2 Iraqis, 1 Briton, 1 Belgian, 1 Sudanese, 1 Chadian, 1 Portuguese, 1 Algerian, 1 Canadian, 1 Saudi and 1 Kuwaiti).

The flight was being operated by SU-GCC, an Airbus A320-232, delivered in 2003. The pilot had logged 6,200 flight hours, of which more than 2,000 on A320 aircraft.

More & more vessels are joining the #MS804 sea search operations. #EgyptAir Track the search http://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/home/shipid:748443/zoom:10?utm_content=buffer1cbe4&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer

The plane made some abrupt turns before rapidly losing altitude and plunging into the sea.

Some large debris have been located south of the island of Crete.

The cause behind the disappearance of EgyptAir Flight 804 is more likely to be terrorism than a technical issue, Egyptian Civil Aviation Minister Sharif Fathi said.

We will update this post as we learn more.
