An easyJet Airbus A320 operating flight U24429 from Lyon to Porto was forced to return shortly after departure on Thursday evening, 22 Augustus, after a passenger in a psychotic state attempted to enter the cockpit.
The incident occurred shortly after take-off when a 26-year-old Portuguese passenger tried to force his way into the flight deck. Fellow passengers and crew restrained him until the aircraft made a safe return to Lyon, where police were waiting on the tarmac.
The aircraft involved was Airbus A320 (registration OE-IJL).
French police confirmed that the man showed signs of motion sickness and an acute psychotic disorder. He was not previously known to authorities and was later admitted to hospital for treatment.
After the passenger was removed, the flight eventually continued its journey to Porto later in the evening.
