easyJet has launched its first-ever African base in Marrakech, marking a significant expansion of its operations in the country and reinforcing its position as a key player in the market.
The new base, supported by a partnership with the Moroccan National Tourist Office, will operate three aircraft and is expected to generate around 100 direct jobs alongside thousands of indirect roles. It also enables easyJet to offer up to 4 million seats annually.
Network expansion and new routes
The airline is adding six new routes for winter 2026/27, further expanding its Moroccan network to 58 routes:
- To Marrakech: Prague, Newcastle and Zurich (already on sale)
- To other destinations: Nantes–Essaouira, Bordeaux–Agadir and Birmingham–Agadir (launching later this spring)
In addition, several existing routes from Marrakech—such as Lille, Strasbourg and Hamburg—will now operate year-round, strengthening seasonal stability.
Strategic growth in Morocco
easyJet now serves five Moroccan airports—Marrakech, Agadir, Rabat, Essaouira and Tangier—and has flown over 20 million passengers to and from the country since launching operations in 2006.
The expansion also supports growth in its package holiday division, with Morocco emerging as a fast-growing destination in the leisure segment.
CEO Kenton Jarvis described the base opening as a “milestone” that will increase connectivity between Morocco and Europe while boosting tourism and local economic development.
