On Sunday morning, a Delta Air Lines flight bound for Guatemala City clipped the tail of an empty Delta jet during pushback from the gate at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. None of the 192 passengers or six crew on board Flight DL1830 were injured.
The incident occurred in an area without direct air traffic controller communication with flight crews, according to the FAA, which is now investigating. Passengers were transferred to another aircraft (Boeing 757-200 registered N6709) and departed at 13:53, nearly four hours after the scheduled takeoff.
The mishap follows a severe turbulence incident less than two weeks earlier on a Delta Salt Lake City–Amsterdam flight that injured 25 people and forced an emergency landing in Minnesota.
