On Sunday, 6 July, Delta Air Lines flight DL127 from Madrid to New York (Airbus A330-300 registered N805NW) was forced to make an emergency landing on Terceira Island in the Azores due to engine issues.
The aeroplane, carrying 282 passengers and 13 crew, diverted safely to Lajes Airport (TER) on Sunday. Passengers deplaned via stairs and spent the night on the island, where they were provided with hotel accommodations and meals.
A replacement A330-300 aircraft registered N822NW, ferried from New York JFK as flight DL9971, flew them out on Monday evening under flight number DL9927. Passengers arrived in JFK with a delay of 31 hours and 30 minutes.
Delta apologised for the disruption, emphasising that the flight landed safely.
