Delta Air Lines will launch nonstop flights from New York-JFK to Sardinia (Olbia) and Malta in summer 2026, following its first-ever “Route Race” vote in which SkyMiles Members chose Sardinia and Delta employees selected Malta. The airline decided to add both destinations, marking its first U.S. service to either island.
Flights to Olbia, Sardinia, begin May 20, 2026 (four weekly), while Malta service starts June 7, 2026 (three weekly), both operated on Boeing 767-300ER aircraft. Customers will have access to Delta One®, Premium Select, Comfort+, and Main, with onboard Missoni-designed amenities, curated meals, and free Wi-Fi.
The move expands Delta’s Mediterranean footprint, making it the largest U.S. carrier to Italy and the first to operate scheduled transatlantic service to Malta. Local leaders in Sardinia and Malta hailed the routes as historic milestones that will boost tourism, economic ties, and global connectivity.
