DAN AIR will resume flights to Syria while temporarily relocating operations from Damascus International Airport to Aleppo International Airport due to the continued closure of Damascus airspace amid the Middle East conflict.
Between 15 March and 26 March, all scheduled flights on the Bucharest–Damascus route will operate via Aleppo instead. The Romanian carrier said passengers holding tickets for the Damascus service have been automatically transferred to flights using Aleppo as the arrival and departure point.
According to CEO Matt Ian David, the decision followed a risk assessment by the airline’s Safety Committee and approval from the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority, confirming that the route can operate safely under current conditions and in compliance with European aviation safety regulations.
DAN AIR, which launched the first direct flights between Syria and the European Union in June 2025, will maintain its schedule of two weekly services on Thursdays and Sundays. The airline said the route has become an important connection for Syrian communities in Europe and will return to Damascus operations once the airspace reopens.
