Romanian airline DAN AIR will begin direct scheduled flights between Damascus and four major European cities—Bucharest, Frankfurt, Berlin, and Stockholm—starting June 15, 2025, making it the only European Union-based airline currently offering commercial service to Syria. The expansion follows bilateral agreements and official approvals by both Romanian and Syrian authorities earlier this year.
The routes will be operated with Airbus A320 aircraft (180 seats), with Bucharest served six times weekly and the other cities twice weekly. DAN AIR emphasises that all operations adhere to international safety and security standards. The move is framed as both a commercial opportunity and a diplomatic gesture, reviving EU-Syria connectivity amid ongoing geopolitical constraints.
DAN AIR joins regional carriers such as Qatar Airways and Turkish Airlines in serving the Syrian capital. The airline’s CEO, Matt Ian David, emphasised the mission to foster connection and mobility over isolation, positioning the airline as a bridge between Europe and Syria.
