A 10-year-old Chartreux cat named Mishu has gone missing after arriving at Brussels Airport on a Dan Air flight from Bacau, Romania, prompting an investigation and a public appeal to help locate the animal.
Mishu travelled in the aircraft’s cargo hold on flight DN403 on 17 July (Airbus A320 registered YR-JUL) after being checked in at Bacau Airport in a secure transport crate. However, when his owner arrived at Brussels Airport, she was handed an empty, damaged carrier, with the cat nowhere to be found.
The family believes Mishu escaped during the baggage handling process, possibly after the carrier was damaged while being unloaded. Mishu, an indoor cat with a blue-grey coat and distinctive copper-coloured eyes, is said to respond to his name. His owner, a widow living in Belgium, regularly travelled with him between Romania and Belgium.
Brussels Airport confirmed that it had reviewed CCTV footage but was unable to determine what happened to the cat. The airport said the animal appears to have disappeared during baggage handling and referred the investigation to Aviapartner, the ground handling company responsible for transporting the pet.
Aviapartner has confirmed it is investigating the incident, while the family continues to appeal for information in the hope of reuniting Mishu with his owner.
