A Croatia Airlines Airbus A220-300, registration 9A-CAN, operating flight OU412 from Split Airport to Frankfurt, aborted takeoff after veering off the runway during its acceleration phase. The aircraft reportedly reached about 131 knots before the crew rejected the takeoff in accordance with safety procedures. It then came to a stop on the grass beside the runway, sustaining damage after striking a vertical marker and runway edge lights.
There were 130 passengers and five crew members on board, including two pilots and three cabin crew. All occupants evacuated safely and no injuries were reported. Passengers were taken to the terminal building, where assistance and onward travel arrangements were provided.
The cause of the incident remains unknown and is under investigation. Croatia Airlines said it is cooperating closely with Split Airport, emergency services, aviation authorities, Croatia’s civil aviation regulator and the national air accident investigation body. Emergency crews worked to remove the aircraft from the runway area.
Operations at Split Airport resumed later in the afternoon after the aircraft was towed away, although the disruption caused several flight cancellations, diversions and delays that were expected to continue into the evening.
