Cityjet, the Irish European regional airline, has recorded its busiest month on its Dublin to London City Airport route since its foundation.

Figures released today by the airline for May reveals the carrier, which has its headquarters in Swords, County Dublin, flew almost 23,000 passengers on its Dublin to London City Airport route, higher than any month in the airline’s 22 year history.

The carrier says this illustrates the growing popularity of the London airport in the heart of the financial district offering ease of access for both business travellers and leisure customers.

Cityjet’s Chief Commercial Officer, Cathal O’ Connell, said: “With a wider range of fares now on offer, we have been experiencing substantial traffic growth across all our routes, but in particular our services from Dublin and Amsterdam to London City airport have proved to be very much in demand. The growth on our Dublin to London City route has been particularly strong with over 50% more passengers travelling with us compared to this time last year”.

He said: “Dublin to London is one of the most in-demand routes in Europe and increasingly our share of that market has grown significantly. In part this is down to the ease of access that London City Airport provides but also our free checked bags policy, the friendliness of our staff and our schedule which offers up to nine flights daily”.

He added: “The route has always been popular with business travellers, but in the last six months we have noted a significant increase in leisure travel as people on city breaks clearly appreciate the value offered by Cityjet and the convenience of flying into an airport that is less than 25 minutes away from London’s major sightseeing and landmark attractions”.
