China Eastern Airlines will return to Stockholm Arlanda Airport in June 2026, launching a new direct service linking the Swedish capital with Shanghai Pudong International Airport.
The route will reconnect Stockholm with Shanghai, China’s largest city and one of the country’s principal financial and commercial hubs. The new service is expected to strengthen business, tourism and cargo links between Sweden and China.
“There is great confidence in the Swedish air travel market and China Eastern’s investment in a direct route from Stockholm Arlanda Airport to Shanghai is a clear sign of this,” said Elizabeth Axtelius, Director Aviation Business at Swedavia. “China Eastern will play an important role in connecting Sweden to China and other well-established markets in Asia. Swedavia’s main goal is to increase connectivity and facilitate for people to meet, whether it is for business, leisure or to visit family and friends.”
Shanghai is not only China’s largest city but also a major global financial centre and home to one of the world’s busiest ports. China is Sweden’s largest trading partner in Asia, and many Swedish companies maintain a strong presence in the Shanghai region.
The new route is also expected to benefit the hospitality sector and high-value cargo traffic by offering faster and more direct logistics between the two markets. In addition, passengers will gain access to broader connections across Greater China and the Asia-Pacific region through China Eastern’s extensive network.
Starting on June 22, 2026, China Eastern will operate the Stockholm–Shanghai service three times per week — on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
