A 51-year-old passenger has died after collapsing on Cathay Pacific flight CX216 from Manchester, UK, to Hong Kong International Airport, operated by Boeing 777-300ER registered B-KQN.
Authorities said the man lost consciousness during the flight. Crew members alerted air traffic control, prompting emergency services to prepare for the aircraft’s arrival.
Paramedics boarded the plane immediately after landing at 06:53 local time and attempted to resuscitate the passenger, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police confirmed they had received a report shortly before arrival that a passenger had become unresponsive.
An autopsy is underway to determine the cause of death. Local reports suggest the man may have had a pre-existing medical condition, though this has not been officially confirmed.
The incident highlights the challenges of in-flight medical emergencies, where immediate access to advanced care is limited despite rapid coordination between flight crews and ground services.
